Introduction to the
Customized Arts Learning Toolkit

The Customized Arts Learning (CAL) toolkit supports personalized learning in arts education and promotes strength-based instructional practice. The CAL toolkit is intended to provide educators with resources to support the needs of various students, thus addressing gaps that impair learning. CAL focuses on connections through arts learning as a bridge to academic and interpersonal development.

  In order to effectively implement this toolkit, it is important to  
  begin with these definitions for the following key terms:  

CULTURE

​The set of artistic values, conventions, or practices associated with a particular field, activity, or society 

ARTISTIC

CULTURAL
INSIDER

An artistic individual that shares a sense of belonging within a group and holds a deep understanding of its artistic values, conventions, and practices
